Wild Willy Barrett's French Connection
Directed by God Father of grunge folk Wild Willy Barrett, this dynamic quartet returns to the UK with an "oo -la-la" as French chanteuse Aurora Colson takes centre stage, leaving the musicians to demonstrate their considerable individual talents.
Captivating audiences both English and French alike with her compelling and expressive vocals, she effortlessly tackles a wide range of styles:
From Gypsy jazz to traditional Celtic, with hint of Bluegrass and Piaf thrown into the mix.
Innovative arrangements beautifully performed on instruments including the guitar, cello, fiddle, banjo and uilleann pipes, all overlaid with a large dose of wry humour.
Those who attended the similar Arts Club gig earlier in May this year will know a bit of what to expect but with a new chanteuse and the unpredictable Wild Willy Barrett at the helm it is guaranteed to be a different show, but as always a unique and unforgettable evening.
Martyn Barker (well known to September Festival audiences) will be the support for this special night and will be promoting his recent "From Goole to St Ives and Back" CD.
The May 2014 show sold out this venue so do not risk turning up on the night.

September Festival - 'Owdyado Theatre Company - Above Bored
'Owdyado Theatre Company, are a dynamic up and coming Cornish company. This Autumn they are touring their 3rd show Above Bored, a psychological thriller with a wide streak of dark comedy directed by Simon Harvey of Kneehigh Theatre,
A police interrogation room. A woman has been detained for questioning after her boss is found dead in suspicious circumstances. In a room down the hall, her colleague also awaits an interview. Just routine questions. Just routine.
But what if the monotony of routine was responsible for pushing one of them over the edge? When does bored become bored to death (albeit someone else's death)? After all, perhaps it's not unusual for employees of an adhesive supply company to feel a little stuck.
Contains some strong language therefore recommended for ages 15 and upwards.

September Festival - Imago Theatre - Under The Paving Stones, The Beach
In 1968 the anti-Vietnam War movement reached its height, which involved violent clashes between the authorities and the protestors on the streets of cities through-out the world, including London, Chicago, Paris, Bonn and Tokyo.
The characters in this play actively join this struggle by occupying their university administration building, the consequences of which shape the course of their lives.
The political turbulence of the times is reflected by the dramatically changing relationships between them and, for some, a more desperate quest for the beach beneath the paving stones.

Exhibition - Paint, Paper, Fabric and Thread
Three makers, each with their own individual approach to textiles have joined together to display works using fabric, thread, wool, silk, paper and mixed media. Gillian Farrell, Val Moon and Sheila Stayne are all inspired by the natural world and the local Cornish landscape which they interpret in a variety of ways.
Gillian works mainly on hand made silk paper with applique and free machine embroidery, depicting ancient stone works, landscapes and seascapes; Val combines embroidery and applique with needle felting in an alluring palette of colour on bags, purses and cushions alongside delicate pen and wash paintings; Sheila uses a mixed media approach to felting with dyed merino wool fibres combined with natural materials like silk and chiffon, which transform during the felting process into a new material.
All three juggle with an element of chance during these processes to produce new and interesting results. An exhibition not to be missed!

World Classics Series - Concert 34 – Music Of North India IX
Piu Sarkhel - Khyal Vocal.
Hanif Khan - Tabla.
Amiruddin Khan - Sarangi.
Piu Sarkhel is quite simply one of the greatest living khyal singers. She gave a recital as part of the World Classics Series in 2009, and in 2006 she performed at Tate St Ives in a double bill with the late Purnima Chaudhuri.
Piu learnt from her father Sri Kamal Bannerjee and has been greatly influenced by the legendary khyal singer Ustad Amir Khan, who stayed at their home in Kolkata on many occasions.
She thus sings in the Amir Khan style, which is characterised by a sense of ease and pace and ranges from meditative to highly virtuosic, and she sings some of his compositions.
Representing the Indore gharana, she is blessed with a superb voice and has developed a fantastic technique. Piu is also one of those rare Indian artists who is highly articulate in English and can talk about her music and perform it with equal ease.
London-based musician Hanif Khan is one of the finest tabla players in the UK. He has become a regular visitor to St Ives, having performed in the World Classics Series on a number of occasions.
Piu and Hanif are being joined by the young sarangi player Amiruddin Khan, who will echo and accompany the vocal line.

Exhibition - Atelier Arts - Evidence
Four Penwith artists have come together as 'Atelier Arts' to show a variety of approaches to the subject 'Evidence'. Both two and three dimensional works in paint, ceramics and textiles engage with the concept of the persistence of place as well as showing evidence of the process of making, as demonstrated in the elegant pottery of ceramic artist Serena Gwynn and the vibrant textile vessels of Pat Furley.
Paintings by Jenny Annely and Carole Ann Grace are concerned with the traces of past industrial heritage and the significant marks left on the landscape, expressed as lingering memories and presences.
Based in Penzance and Treen, all four artists have a strong affinity to the Cornish landscape and its people, celebrating the diversity to be found in this locality with a joyous collection; evidence of their creativity and skills.

Imago Theatre - Under The Paving Stones
A new play - being premiered at the club - written by George Yates and produced by Imago Theatre.
