September Festival - Film Noir Season
The term 'Film Noir' was applied to Hollywood movies by French critic Nino Frank in 1946. It is a classic term used to describe Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize attitude and sexual motivations. The film noir era is considered to be the early 1940s and -50s, and is associated with a low-key black-and-white visual style. Many of the prototypical stories and much of the attitude of classic noir derive from the hard-boiled school of crime fiction that emerged in the USA during the depression.

Exhibition - Sue Laughton - Recent Paintings
These works are mainly about life on sea shores and in coastal waters.
Sue spent her childhood in Essex on Mersea Island in the Blackwater Estuary and has been painting since the 1960s. She inherited her fascination with the sea and its shores from her father - a merchant seaman who went to sea at sixteen, later writing books and plays about his experiences.
Many of today's shorelines are no longer primarily working environments. Some of the paintings in the current exhibition reflect this. They have been developed from sketches made on the beaches in Australia, Uruguay, The Canary Islands and Cornwall.

Abducted By Humans
A night of unexpected encounters with comedy, performance and music.
Following last year's success Kulture Brake Productions is putting together another night for your delight. This time we will be seriously funny with some surprises quite literally wild.
Kimberley Stone did her first appearance on this stage a year ago and she will be back
with her supreme hyper-realistic view of the funny side of the world.
Rod Bullimore will be revisiting his Mic Manic beast in a string of impalpable blissfully sad 'self-delusionary' visions.
The musical side of the show will come from the groovy excruciatingly hilarious Bernie Davies' guitar.
To add some disruption to the evening, we've lined up the foolish wit of Daniel Barnard's shock-brainwaves.
Expect some controversy as this time Dhyano will explore his untamed stallion-side, in search of the sexy synthesis of his multi-talented mesmerising verve.
In substance a night to be remembered .......
or better to forget, depending on how comfortable you feel out of your comfort zone.
