I was born at Gurnard’s Head near Zennor where my father worked as a coastguard then moving to St Agnes and Treen before coming to live in St Ives at the age of 8 where all my family originate from. I was always sketching from a very young age, usually people’s faces and eyes which fascinated me.
My first experience of painting apart from school was achieving my dream job at Troika Pottery at the age of 18 which was then situated under the museum at Wheal Dream, the business then moved to Newlyn in 1970 where I continued as head decorator until 1974. The training at Troika was intensive but useful in learning how to use paint and different methods of glazing.
After bringing up my family I took a course in textile art at the local college and followed this genre for a few years before taking up painting again. I have been a member of St Ives Arts Club since 2013 and for the past nine years have been involved in organising programmes for the Monday Art Group who meet weekly for social interaction and art sessions.
