Art Groups

St Ives Arts Club offers a lively programme of member‑led Arts Groups throughout the week, creating a warm and supportive space for creativity, learning, and connection. Each group has its own character, but all share the same spirit: members coming together to explore ideas, develop skills, and enjoy the company of fellow artists and performers.

Our weekly sessions span visual arts, writing, performance, and collaborative making. Whether you’re picking up a brush, shaping a script, rehearsing a scene, or simply looking for inspiration, there’s a group to welcome you. Members of all abilities are encouraged to join in — the emphasis is on participation, enjoyment, and shared creativity.

These groups form the heartbeat of the Club, keeping the building active and energised throughout the week and offering every member a chance to get involved in the artistic life of our community.

With any group, please check with the organisers first, before turning up!

Monday Art Group — 13:30

A relaxed, supportive Art Practice session where members work on their own projects in good company. The group offers a gentle start to the creative week, with space to experiment, share ideas, and enjoy a focused afternoon of making.

Tuesday Writing Group — Fortnightly (currently full)

This small, committed group meets every other Tuesday to explore creative writing in all its forms. Members share work, discuss technique, and develop their writing in a friendly, constructive environment. Although the group is currently full, expressions of interest are always welcome.

Wednesday Ukulele Group — Afternoon

A cheerful mid‑week gathering for anyone who enjoys making music together. The Ukulele Group focuses on playing for pleasure, learning new songs, and building confidence through group practice. All abilities are welcome, from complete beginners to seasoned strummers.

Friday Art Group — 13:30 (currently full)

A popular Art Practice session offering a calm, creative end to the week. Members bring their own materials and projects, working alongside others in a warm and encouraging atmosphere. The group is currently full, but members are invited to enquire about future availability.
If you’d like, I can also format these into a single “Weekly Groups” panel for display, or create a version tailored for the AGM booklet with timings, convenors, and booking notes.

Member Guidance: Openness, Conduct & Exhibition Practice

1. Our Inclusive Ethos

-
St Ives Arts Club is proudly non‑selective, welcoming and open to all.
-
Membership is open to people of all abilities and backgrounds.
-
We do not discriminate, and we do not vet or screen applications.
-
All members are invited to participate in our open exhibitions, submitting any work they choose and pricing it as they wish.
-
All members may rent the exhibition space; applications are accepted as submitted.
-
Occasionally, an Art Group may reach capacity due to space limitations. When this happens, we will always try to offer a place in another group.
-

2. Art Groups and Their Role

-
Art Groups are part of St Ives Arts Club and not separate entities.
-
They do not have their own rules, committees, or governance structures.
-
Members meet throughout the week to enjoy making art together.
-
A facilitator may help organise the session, but their role is practical only and does not carry authority.
-

3. Respect, Equality and Behaviour

-
No member of any Group has authority over another member.
-
No member’s opinion is more important than anyone else’s.
-
No member should ever feel bullied, isolated, excluded, or pressured to leave a group.
-
No individual may impose personal rules or regulations on others.
-

4. Exhibitions by Art Groups
-
Art Group exhibitions must reflect the same open and inclusive principles as all Arts Club exhibitions.
-
Art Group exhibitions must be open to all who attend that group.
-
Exhibitions are group events; no single person decides who may or may not exhibit.
-
A curator may be appointed by group vote, but their role is limited to hanging the work—not selecting, rejecting, altering pricing, or imposing personal rules.
