Exhibition - Sparks
An exhibition of mixed media artworks and paintings by artists with autism living and creating in Cornwall.
Spectrum ASD provides art workshops for its creative service users, the art created is displayed in this exhibition.
The artists who participate in the workshops create work based upon their experiences and interests.
For the artists, especially those that are non-verbal, it is an effective way to express their thoughts and feeling to those around them.
The work created is rewarding for the artists, it develops their confidence and skills and challenges their imaginations and sometimes this is evident in the art.
For example, a painting can be created and only after you rotate the work on its side does it reveal a new and clearer way to view the work, like Paul’s ‘Tree’ or Phil’s landscapes.
The weekly workshops are run by St Ives Artist and Spectrum Care Support Worker Darren Clarke.

A Celebration of Metalwork & Textiles
After the very successful ‘Colours Of The Season’ exhibition in February, Sharon McSwiney & Alison Dupernex return to the club.
Metalwork, jewellery, knitwear jackets, scarfs & hats will be on display. Pieces inspired by the scenery of West Cornwall and fauna & flora.
Both Sharon & Alison will be attending every day and creating while on site. Listen out for the tap of a hammer or the whirr of a knitting machine…

Exhibition - Dawn till Dusk - Steve Payter
Chasing the light is just part of a photographer’s life!
From the ‘golden’ and ‘blue’ hours around sunrise and sunset to everything in between, light is a transformative element and is often the magic ingredient in the capture and creation of a powerful and evocative image.
This latest body of work from photographer, Steve Payter of artisan cornwall, is a celebration of the beauty and drama of the light-influenced land, sea, cloud, rock and skyscapes so spectacularly offered on a daily basis across the seasons from dawn till dusk in the Penwith Peninsula.
All images are printed, finished and framed personally by Steve, giving him control over the entire process from ‘shooting’ to ‘hanging’. Prints and cards are also available.
Designed to complement the photography, also on show will be artisan cornwall’s range of enamelled earrings and pendants inspired by the same dramatic colours and locational references.

September Festival - Film Season - Basquiat
Basquiat tells the story of the meteoric rise of youthful artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Starting out as a street artist, living in Thompkins Square Park in a cardboard box, Jean-Michel is "discovered" by Andy Warhol's art world and becomes a star.
But success has a high price, and Basquiat pays with friendship, love, and eventually, his life.

Explores the St.Ives of the 1950s and a philosophy shaped by the potter’s wheel.
Ghost Town (45 mins).
This film asks if anyone will live in the centre of town in twenty years time.

September Festival - Film Season - Annie Leibovitz - Life Through A Lens
Traces the artistic self-realization of Annie Leibovitz, from childhood through the death of her beloved friend, Susan Sontag, and includes snippets of Leibovitz's last visual memories of Sontag.
The film traces the arc of her photographic life, her aspirations to artistry, and the trajectory of her career through phases that included the tumultuous sixties in Berkeley, CA., touring with the Rolling Stones, a mentorship by Hunter S. Thompson, and, later, capturing the last candid moments of John Lennon's life with Yoko Ono.
It closes with her reflections on life, children, and the the wake of her relationship with Sontag. The archival material presented here is invaluable for framing an understanding of this immeasurably influential visual artist.

A comedy improvisation group of four top comedy performers from varying disciplines.
Through a series of games, not unlike the popular TV show, 'Whose Line is it Anyway?' they incorporate audience suggestions into an array of scenes ranging from high-end humorous wordplay to the blatantly absurd.

September Festival - Film Season - An Angel At My Table
A dramatisation of the autobiographies of New Zealand author Janet Frame.
Originally produced as a television mini-series, the film, as with Frame's autobiographies, is divided into three sections, with the lead role played by three actresses who portray Frame at different stages of her life:
Karen Fergusson (child), Alexia Keogh (adolescent), and Kerry Fox (adult).
The film follows Frame from when she grows up in a poor family, through her years in a mental institution, and into her writing years after her escape.

Film - That English Woman
The true story of Cornish-born campaigner Emily Hobhouse (1860-1926) and her fight to expose the concentration camps set up by the British during the Boer War.
Starring Veronica Lang as Emily and Terence Alexander as her father, the Revd Hobhouse, the film traces her early upbringing in East Cornwall, her time as a social worker among the miners of Virginia and her aim to bring the Anglo-Boer War in South Africa to an end.
When she learned that the British troops were forcing women and children into concentration camps she decided to go out to South Africa and personally investigate the situation to bring it to the British Government’s attention.

Miranda Sykes - Borrowed Places
Miranda Sykes, the acclaimed singer and bassist with 'Show of Hands' is returning to her roots. After a career spanning over 20 years, during which time she has played with many of the top musicians and singers within the folk world, she will be touring as she started out; one woman, one bass and one guitar.
Borrowed Places is a project that draws it's inspiration primarily from the songs and landscapes of her native Lincolnshire but seen through the eyes of someone who has lived away for many years. The themes are not specific; the land changes, it grows, it shrinks, it adapts and it resists but most of all it lives and breathes.
With her sensational voice, and accompanying herself, Miranda interprets the soul of the land and takes her audience on a journey that resonates with us all, wherever we live and it is one you won't want to miss.

Exhibition - Cyd Jupe and Steve Payter
Ceramic Sculptor, Cyd Jupe and Photographer, Steve Payter, are joining forces to present an exhibition of figurative ceramic sculptures, landscape photography and jewellery.
Working with stoneware crank, a gritty and strong clay, Cyd produces powerful pieces primarily based on animal or bird forms. She is using the show to introduce a range of new work including an impressive rendition of a piercingly blue-eyed, intricately feathered cormorant, a bright-eyed, white-spotted recumbent fawn and a quirky and characterful sitting piglet. All Cyd’s sculptures work equally well as either indoor or outdoor pieces and she is available for commission work.
Steve will be showing some of his latest photographic images capturing the magnificence of the colours and tones of the rocks, shores, moors and coves of the beautiful Penwith Peninsula and beyond. All images are printed, finished and framed personally by Steve, giving him control over the entire process from ‘shooting’ to ‘hanging’. Complementing his photography will be his latest range of enamelled earrings and pendants which are also inspired by the same dramatic locational references.

Grand sale of fabrics, threads, beads, buttons, lace, deep frame picture frames and much more.
After many enjoyable years of textile crafting I have decided to hang up my needle threader and concentrate on other projects. But, I need to make some space at home so I'm parting with all the yardage (it was yards when I started) and associated bits and bobs collected over time, and there’s a lot of it.
Fabric lengths and remnants of all types, together with a huge variety of lovely things to spark your creative imagination, will be sold at prices well below even E-bay, so there will be lots of bargains. Cash only sales. Please bring carrier bags with you.

Dogside Out: Humankind in the doghouse ~ twenty-one fine tales - well wagged.
These short, interlaced pieces - humorous and dramatic - are about the human capacity for blending cruelty and kindness, reflected here in the many ways we treat our companion animals.
Up and Away: Cold earth shudders when a late love blossoms - a play.
Mary and George are deeply embedded in an exhausting, contentious married existence. Edna's chance arrival inspires love, hatred and the expression of needs long dormant. A humorous and moving examination of infirmity and strength - passion and morbidity - and the urge to recover purpose and meaning in our lives...before day's end.
