I have been a full time professional designer maker since graduating in 1990. I produce a varied body of work including silver jewellery, unique wall sculptures & framed metalwork pieces. I am primarily inspired by the Cornish coast, collecting seaweed, shells, and bits of rusty metal plus taking many photographs of the sand, sea & rock formations.

Texture & surface pattern are my passion. I combine copper & brass to create colour contrasts then utilise etching, embossing & hammering to create unique surfaces. Heat & fluxes are applied for further decorative effects.

I endeavour to do a daily sketch as I feel the need to create something every day. I regularly take part in month long projects such as mark making, pattern or colour prompts to develop new ideas. I recently completed the #100daysproject creating 100 mini collages. Some of these will evolve into metalwork or paintings.

I am finding working with paint really exciting!

Purely for enjoyment at the moment but feel this element of my practice will develop further. Metalwork is obviously a restricted palette of colours so the possibilities of paint really inspire me.

After 30 years of making I am looking to move into a slightly different direction & I am certain that concentrating on painting will also become a tool for designing & creating my metalwork if not work in its own right.

I have a gallery on Island Square in St Ives which is my main outlet for my metalwork, jewellery & artwork.

I regularly exhibit at the St Ives Arts Club which enables me to display more of my wall sculptures & framed metal ‘tiles’.

I am also involved with an artist co-operative run gallery in St Ives; Back Road Artworks. I am a member of the Guild of Ten in Truro, a cooperative established in the 1970s.

I exhibit with the Cornwall Crafts Association at Trelissick.

I am very active on social media especially Instagram posting daily images of my work, inspiration & ideas.
